If your managers are yet to receive any form of Mental Health Awareness Training, then our online workshop could be just what’s needed. Delivered by a leading expert over two and half hours, the session is designed to provide insights, stimulate discussion and to create working conditions under which every individual can thrive.

Here are five reasons why your managers should be attending our mental health awareness for managers workshop:

Less is more

Some businesses turn to Mental Health First Aid to cover this area for their company. Their courses can be beneficial, but are run over two days and while the areas covered are vital, some of the content, it could be argued, is not relevant for everyday organisations. That’s why our, much shorter workshop, focuses on the three main conditions that impact employees’ mental health – stress, anxiety and depression – covering signs and symptoms and how managers can support anyone experiencing these problems.

Create a supportive environment

If you were struggling with your mental health, wouldn’t it be reassuring to know that your manager has had some training in this area, so you could talk to them in confidence. That’s what this simple workshop provides – a basic but vital awareness of mental health that can be so supportive for those going through difficult times. But bear in mind that sometimes an employee may not feel comfortable talking to their manager, even if they’ve had the requisite training. This could be for a number of reasons – so ensure you make it clear to staff that they can speak to anyone who has been on the course, not just their direct manager.

Support your managers, too

Being a manager is not an easy gig, with heaps of expectations and responsibilities on their shoulders. This workshop will not add to that, rather will help reduce pressure. After attending they will be able to: speak confidently with any staff struggling; listen attentively to their needs; know what to do when anyone is off due to their mental health; but perhaps most importantly, understand ways to ensure their mental health is in a good place. A large part of the workshop focuses on managing stress, staying mentally healthy and being a good ‘wellbeing role model’ within their teams.

Receive ideas on being proactive

While covering a serious subject, our workshop is engaging and not overly heavy. One reason for this is the emphasis we place on managers, and workplaces in general, being proactive to help create positive and supportive working environments. That’s why we offer ideas and advice on ways to start or kickstart an employee wellbeing programme, as well as how to normalise conversations about mental health, and focusing on positive mental health, not just associating ‘mental health’ with a problem or an issue.

Don’t just take our word for it

While we could wax lyrical about the advantages of attending our workshop (did we mention the price? Great value for money at £89 per attendee….), we wouldn’t be completely neutral. So instead, look at the companies who’ve placed managers on the workshops – either through our open sessions or running it exclusively for their staff – who’ve given us great feedback and continued to run workshops through us and/or send new managers to our sessions. Companies include: Edelman, Velocity Transport Planning, Hain Daniels Group, and Life. And here’s one such piece of feedback, from Beth Pollard, Wellbeing Lead at Covea Insurance:

“The content and how the course was delivered was spot on. I have been on quite a few mental health in the workplace courses and I would say this was the most beneficial so far.”
